If your character dies, are you (the player) out of the game? Or do you draw a new character? I'm not a fan of anything that knocks a player out for the rest of the game, but that sort of permanent death certainly fits the theme here!

In another thread, the publisher answered:

Kevin, that's exactly right. This isn't a player elimination game, so when a Character dies, the player starts with a new one at the start of the next player phase.

Basically, the Character you start with might not be a hero in this story... he or she might end up as shark bait!

Re: Sharknado: The Board Game - Kickstarter preview from The Chubby Meeple

It fits the B-movie theme, where cast members might get killed off. I don't enjoy it as a boardgame mechanism (see for example Elder Sign). But I can see why they used it.

Thanks John! Your support is very much appreciated!

Kevin is correct in all aspects, including the "B-movie feel" of coming back as a new Character. Not only do we want to avoid player elimination, but it also tends to promote the cooperative nature of the game. Depending on the manner of your Character's death, other players can attempt to save you, retrieve your equipment, and help out your new Character by equipping them or partnering up to achieve objectives.

Just out of curiosity, did you guys have the IP rights to the movie's characters or just the title?

I understand about wanting to use generic names for those not familiar with the movie, but if you had the rights to the names and likeness, maybe some stretch goals that are for characters in the movie?

Jason, licensing can be a tricky thing. While we have the rights to make the board game based on Sharknado, we don't have the ability to use everything and anything from the films. That being said, our backers and fans of the game have spoken, and incorporating characters from the film is something we're looking into!
