I'm watching playthru videos and it looks like that the cardboard tokens could be substituted easily for wooden tokens that meeples source has. I know they have yellow thunderbolts , wooden coins , and Red heart tokens. Could someone, please, tell me how many of each of the cardboard tokens are in the game and if I'm missing any type of token ?

I didn't actually count them, but according to the rule book there are 35 attack tokens(lightning), 25 Influence Tokens(Coins) and 4 heart tokens. There are two additional tokens in the Game 3 box, which are for when you cast petrificus totalus on the villains. There may be additional tokens in the other games, but I haven't gotten that far yet. The only other type of token is the Villain Control Tokens, but they are awesome and made of metal. So don't need to replace those.

Is there a need for tokens or could you just count it up like in legendary, dc Deckbuilder, ascension, and star realms.

I would say yes they are useful. The attack tokens build up on each villain until there are enough to defeat it. Some cards cause these to be removed, so it's useful to have tokens to keep track of the total attack between turns. As for the money, you can acquire money from other people when it isn't your turn, so it's useful to have the tokens for that reason.

Instead of wooden coins you could go buy gringotts metal coins or the plastic coins that come in gringotts checkers game

Just saw the Gringotts coins. Very cool. Will you post an update here for us after you get them? Tell us what you think about them! (size, feel, etc)

Of all the games to pimp out, I was personally pretty happy with the tokens as they came in the box.

And yes, the tokens are very much needed. You can gain zots and seals when it isn't your turn, so you need to be able to keep track of those.

Just played the game for the first time Christmas day with my daughter. Although the cardboard components are pretty sturdy, they are nowhere near as nice as the metal skull tokens. Planning to make some upgrades at my Etsy site soon (after I crawl out of the pile of my Christmas-related organizer orders). If you're interested, you can keep an eye on my shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/TableTopEnvy

Thanks! Looking forward to exploring this game as we get further into it!

After playing it I decided to upgrade the influence tokens. I manipulated a image from internet with GIMP and print. Bougth 50 20mm round glass cabochons and a diamond glase glue. Good result!

ok so I've played with the Gringotts checker's pieces andthey're definitely NICER than the cardboard tokens but I wish they were similar in size. Being a bit bigger, they stand out and are a bit bulky so hopefully in the near future I can find a better replacement for the checker pieces

This is what I've been using for the influence tokens:

https://www.amazon.com/Shiny-Metal-Pirate-Treasure-Coins/dp/...

The markings on them are indistinct enough that you can imagine many different themes for them. They have a nice heft to them. I use them for several games.

I also bought some of those yellow lightening bolts from meeplesource. Those are very nice, too.

We enjoy the extra bling.

Reviving the thread! I found this game recently and love it as a huge Harry Potter fan. Didn't love the cardboard tokens though so I have been on a search for better metal tokens. Today I ordered these three.

https://www.etsy.com/listing/229937685/16-pc-medium-raw-bras...

https://www.etsy.com/listing/495984632/5-pcs-raw-brass-22mm-...

https://www.etsy.com/listing/292465019/2pcs-brass-metal-blan...

I measured all the pieces and these are very accurately sized. Only have to dye the hearts red and stamp logos on the coins. Maybe the M from the cardboard tokens on one side and the deathly hallows symbol on the other? Hmm decisions decisions. What do you guys think?

Sweet! I've never seen those brass discs before. What do you use to stamp them with?

Either permanent ink with a quick clear coat sprayed over or using pieces of metal and a hammer to actually put it into the metal. Not sure which I am going to use yet. Either way I will have to make the shapes into a stamp of some sort. Soft for the ink or metal for the pounding.

I'm interested in seeing how those turn out. Let us see them when you're done! Maybe a small dremel tool would etch the design in well. I've used a Dremel on several things...even rocks! They work great.
