It all comes down to this, the man who would be king standing atop the throne, accompanied by one of his lieutenants, Lord Merick Farrow, and two imposing shadow dragons. If only the heroes knew...

They appeared at the entrance, visibly confident that they could deter Splig and get hold of the Iron Crown. High Mage Quellen, the necromancer, boasts his control of the dead and how he could successfully pursue the King of All Goblins. Syndrael, the Knight, looks unharmed, the Shield of the Dark God playing its role. Avric Albright, the disciple, is injured, but not so gravely, and is already worried about helping his party. Finally, Leoric of the book, the geomancer, couldn't look worse, his robe is in tatters, his skin with alternating spots of dry blood and open wounds and yet, fearless, he is the first to take action.

Several zombies are grouped in the ruins, looking to inflict some damage, but Leoric, wisely and stealthily, approaches the center of the group, with his weapon lighting into a blinding blink and then exploding, only to fade away and expose 4 shattered bodies. That's a promising start!

The heroes quickly advance to slay the remaining zombie, while also huddling up for some healing provided by Avric. At this point, a fierce hybrid sentinel appears next to Quellen, whereas the door opens, with Lord Merick shouting a greeting, shortly before a Shadow Dragon emerges from the throne room. The battle suddenly looks less enjoyable as they get a few sizeable hits.

The heroes then feel their limbs tingling, while a kind of blood connection with the monsters around them blossoms. Leoric and Quellen, with their keen minds, hastily conclude that they are vitally bonded and, knowing the strength of their party, acknowledge that attacking the monsters might mean killing themselves.

In this death-or-death situation, Leoric altruistically wishes them good luck and says farewell. He uses the last bits of his stamina to move painfully and summon his magic stone, which strikes a death blow to the shadow dragon, but also to him, who falls to the ground lifeless.

Enraged, Quellen storms into the throne room only to find another Dragon, which is efficiently dealt with using two powerful spells. Avric and Syndrael follow him, shortly after, and the main quarrel begins.

Looking to defend his King, Lord Farrow ignites himself a couple of times, taking a toll on Quellen's health, who now stands erratically. Syndrael and Avric take turns into a flurry of blows aimed at Baron Zachareth, but as if taken by dark magic, Syndrael's eyes turn white and she unleashes an attack on herself. The magic seems to circumvent the crowned Avric, he hears a deafening scream coming from behind, quickly turning around to see Quellen collapse to the cold floor after a sneaky hybrid sentinel found him.

Avric tightens his grip on his axe, with eyes swollen by tears, and unleashes an attack channeling his rage and sadness to the tip of his blade. Zachareth feels the hit and stumbles, but immediately strikes back, slaying Avric.

So it all comes down to Syndrael, face to face with an injured Zachareth and a seemingly fine Merick Farrow. She is able to defend from a couple of blows, but also misses some counter attacks. With a last struggle, she is able to defeat the Baron and, as he dies, the vile atmosphere starts to weaken.

There is no joy in defeating evil when all of your friends are dead, but Syndrael managed to smile slightly. This adventure was a hell of a ride and the memories of their time together would forever warm her always sobbing heart.
