What did they do exactly? I don't really use them for shipping myself, but I've gotten packages from them before and haven't had issues.

I didn't find that to be the case, but then again I was mostly shipping from/to Memphis, so that's likely why.

I've found that UPS is much worse on packages. If you have something that could possibly break, they're more likely to do so (might be different in other areas?) and they seem to be harder to collect from when you file a claim.

My dog disagrees*. She barks at USPS and UPS delivery-people but not the FedEx guy. She can even distinguish the sounds of the different trucks, barking at UPS/USPS before she looks out the window. I'm thinking the FedEx guy gave her an impressive bribe at some point.

*Unless her barks translate to "You are awesome...keep up the good work!"

FedEx gets here before 11 am, UPS around 5 or 6.

They've both been good to me.

And the USPS - excellent. whistle

Yes they do. I just learned this as a hard lesson very recently, when by the online information and cost calculator, it seemed that FedEx has a niche in which two particular boxes I had to send could be sent cheaper than the post office. However, I learned a quick and painful lesson about the additional fees and surcharges that FedEx imposes! I was locked in and committed on the more expensive box, which ended up costing me $6 more than the USPS rate would have been, but I thought that FedEx was going to *save* me that much, so I really lost $12 over what I expected to pay as I headed out the door in blissful ignorance to their office.

Never again.

I'm in Louisville and it's a UPS world hub. They may be more efficient locally than elsewhere. Most of the product we directly ship out is to customers in a 75 mile radius.

But I order product from places nationwide. UPS has never lost an inbound order whereas I've a had few FedEx shipments to us get lost and never found.

A group of graphic designers voted FedEx as having the world's best corporate logo.

I didn't even realize there was an arrow in it.

They both suck.

They should merge and form a new company.

They we could call it FedUp

It costs extra to have the FedEx delivery guy ring the doorbell and let you know the package of, say, perishable food which was just delivered was, you know, just delivered.

That alone is enough to hate them.

I've had pretty good service with FedEx. UPS I have had nightmares with and generally try to avoid using them at any cost.

SmartPost is a whole other soapbox with fedex. I ordered something from St. Louis. It went from STL LOU CIN to IND over to USPS than to LOU then to my house. I live 20 south of LOU.

I have had good luck with the higher levels of Fedex shipping, but I never ship SmartPost. It's better than it used to be, but that isn't saying much.

Maybe it depends on area, but UPS rings our doorbell when they make deliveries to my house as well.

As a Canadian who occasionally buys things online from the US, both UPS and FedEx suck compared to USPS in terms of cost (both shipping charges and brokerage fees, but especially brokerage fees angry)

Price aside, my actual opinion on USP vs FedEx varies based how close I currently live/work to their warehouses. USP usually wins though, since they usually drop packages at a local UPS store instead of the depot.

Don't get me started on Purolator! (Purolator? More like puro-later!)
