There are three cards that can deal damage to a player during Step 8 which according to the rulebook is after the round has ended, but still happens before the next round starts. It essentially is outside of the definition of sequential timeline and acts like a pause button. This creates a very serious problem. There is no rule to state what happens if a player dies outside the round structure. The cards include:

Scourge Beast
Fluorescent Flower
Beast Patient

In our example, the monster dealt an amazing 7 damage to 4 of the 5 players and nearly killed us. During Step 8, we revealed the Beast Patient and it killed us. However, the fifth player had survived by dreaming.

We could find no literal explanation and decided logically that a dead hunter must still come back to life and should still get a free upgrade and full health. So that fifth player who dreamed was at 7 health and the rest of us were at 8 health.

We all felt that monster reveal should just be the very first thing that happens during a round. It would still be strange for us to die before we pick a card. We wouldn't even get the chance to dream. But with the brutality of the game theme, that's acceptable to me.

If you were at 1 or 2 health depending on the card revealed, you could die before getting to act. Just like you can kill a boss before it hits you by playing instant effects to get those last few hits in.

After reading the rules again all killed hunter should have played a card and acted as dead for the remaining of the round.

Revival of hunter happend during Step 7 while revealing the new monster happen in step 8. You should only have been back to life + upgrade on Step 7 of the following turn.

At least that's my understanding of the rules as it stand.

Just to clarify, if a Hunter was killed during a reveal in step 8, does the Hunter do an immediate "partial" Hunters Dream (Heal, Grab Upgrade), or does the hunter have to wait until the Hunter's Dream step on the next turn? If the second, does the dead hunter still get to play a card at Step 1 of the following turn, or do they not do anything until the Hunter's Dream step?

IMHO:

When You died in step 8 when revel a new monster, You dead - do nothing just waiting - until next round step 7 hunters dream.
