I just picked this up yesterday. After reading the rules, is it safe to say that the '1' will not see much play? Either as a door or a play? Thanks

Why would you not play it as a door? You go first! And then you cover it with another card.

Alternatively, you can use a '1' card later in the round to fold if your other cards would get you called on (to minimize your loss).

Correct, Brendan. The 1 is best played as the door card.

Perhaps you'd have to play the game to see this in action, but there isn't really any reason not to play the 1 as your door card. Therefore it's safe to assume that when the 1 is out, it will be played first.

Using the 1 to reduce your penalty later isn't really a profitable plan, so if you have the 1 you ought to lead with it. Then you can either call someone right away, or bury the 1 so it can't be called.

The ramification of "if the 1 is out it will be played" is that any other low door cards have a risk of being immediately called in a fair number of games.

Enjoy!

D'oh

Thanks. I missed the obvious aspect that as a Door it also became the first lead.

Thanks for the patience. It'll get some table time Saturday.
