This is my first post here, and I hope this is cool by the rules, but I just created a simple web app that I made available on GitHub for those that might be interested.

It solves a common problem with my gaming group of friends and that is determining what to play based on the amount of time and number of players we have.

Demo app is here: https://mcgraths.github.io/what-to-play/
Source code is here: https://github.com/mcgraths/what-to-play

How it works:

1. You configure with your friend's BGG usernames
2. The app creates a unified library of all the games you collectively own or want to own
3. You can filter based on games you own ("what should we play?") or want to own ("what should I buy next?")
4. You can filter based on number of players and play time
5. You can sort by Name, BGG Rank, Average Rating, and Play Time
6. You can toggle friends on/off depending on who can make a particular game night, or maybe you want to see what's on a friend's wishlist so you know what to get them for their birthday.
7. Bookmark your URL to save you group for future use.

To configure it for your group of friends, format the URL as indicated here: https://github.com/mcgraths/what-to-play#configure-users

If I'm not mistaken, softwares that scrape BGG databases aren't strictly kosher?

I'm using the API they made available for this purpose....

This is cool - question tho - I put in my friends and my username, chose a 3p game for 1-2 hours and it recommended 221 Baker ST. How is it coming up with these recommendations?

The URL I used was "https://mcgraths.github.io/what-to-play/?members=alenen|mjacobsca|ianoble"

It takes all the games that the three of you own and then filters them down to ones that support three players and take 1-2 hours to play. At least that's how it should work. I haven't been able to test with a bunch user accounts, so if that isn't correct let me know!

And to clarify, it isn't recommending games, just filtering. The default sort is Alphabetical.

Your 'Games to Buy' filter includes the wish-list entry of 'Don't buy this'

Ha! I didn't even know that was an option. Sadly, it looks as though that information doesn't come via the API. Just if it is on the wishlist or not.

I'd be surprised if it's not available. As I believe the OWLWG does recognise this distinction. Maybe give Jeffy a quick GM?
