I suspect some of the base pilots flying the old model xwings will still be popular, but what about the rookie/veteran style generic pilots for the old xwings and tie figthers?

Does anyone still use them when building a force? I finally got around to getting the new set and consolidating the two base boxes the other night and notice that the old ones are only a few points cheaper, but with the new ones you get an extra shield token and better maneuver options (for the tie, more of them are green even).

Are the old base ties and xwings considered useless now?

Generic TIE Fighters are still very popular. Nothing beats the Academy Pilot for cheap blocking/swarming, and Black Squadron Pilots are very popular as an extremely cheap platform for Crack Shot.

Generic X-Wings unfortunately are not as popular. In fact, the T-65 X-Wing in general is not seen very much these days, aside from the occasional Biggs. Some of the named pilots have their uses, but the T-65 doesn't really excel at anything and its lack of re-positioning is a liability.

Wes also appears to counter ordinance by stripping tokens.

I ended up with too much X-Wing stuff too quickly after getting a couple of secondhand bundles cheaply, and am paring it down by selling off some of the excess.

In particular, I decided to keep only the T70 X-Wings and the TIE/FOs, and shift the classic TIEs and X-Wings.

Bear in mind I'm not playing competitively. Five TIE/FOs is plenty of swarm for friendly games with the sproglet.

Howlrunner is great, though.
