Just want to make sure this is correct.

In order to do SA in space you must have chosen the space for an operation.

In other words the space would have to be valid for operation.

The only reason I posted is there was a mention in a playthrough thread that mentions somewhat in passing the Syndicate bot potentially making an illegal move. No one replied so I don't know.

And that was also the main reason I post about it as a SA in any arbitrary space would be too powerful. The syndicate could close a base every turn which could be disaster to DR and July26.

It depends upon the rules for the particular Special Activity.

4.1.1 Accompanying Operations. Some Special Activities specify that they may only accompany certain types of Operations (3.0). Certain Special Activities may take place only in the locations of their Accompanying Operations. If not otherwise specified, Special Activities may accompany any Operations and take place in any otherwise valid spaces.

Could you post the thread that this is in so we can clarify?

Also, if you're talking about Bribe, the downside is that this costs Resources, something directly related to Syndicate victory conditions. Also, this will piss off the DR/M26 player(s) and they will make sure to spend time closing Casinos and taking whatever Resources they can from the Syndicate.

Thanks Pete. It still seems questionable but that may be because of my generic op question. So I will be specific.

So based on 4.1.1 then syndicate can terror in a space (LaHabana for example) and then bribe to close July26 base in Oriente.

OR

Must the "any space" be confined within the selected spaces of the terror operation.

Based on 4.1.1 it seems the former, but that seems very powerful and not that real or logical(using example above). The syndicate can easily chop a base but others can't close a casino without considerable more effort.

Thanks Fowler.

As to the thread, see my previous post. It is practically the same in reference to rules question.

The rule for each individual Special Activity states what spaces it may take place in. Three SAs in CL must take place in spaces selected for the accompanying Operation: Ambush, Assassinate, and Kidnap; other SAs have other requirements.

If the rule for an SA says that it may take place "in any 1 space" (like the Bribe rule says), then that SA may take place in any one space on the map.

Is the Bribe SA too powerful? Only if you've allowed the Syndicate to earn too many Resources. Remember that one of the Syndicate victory conditions is to have more than 30 Resources, and each Bribe costs them 3 Resources. That's than 10% of the target level for their victory condition, plus whatever the accompanying Operation cost them...

Regards,
Oerjan

Ok thanks everyone.

It just seemed powerful to me. But as others state may not be because can't do it a lot and still be rich.

My opinion (FWIW)...

Bribery is much more useful to me when I'm playing as the Syndicate as a threat than when actually used. I want to keep my resources, not throw them away tangling with factions with serious muscle.

For example: "Ok, listen up Fidel, you'd better keep your boys outta my casinos or that precious little base you got there in Habana won't be around no more." [imagine a bad mobster accent]
