This game works well in two players? It remains valid and fun? Thank you.

I've played it with two several times and with higher counts.

It's fun just fine with two, but it's a completely different game with 3, 4, or 5. With more players, you tend to have expeditions end rather quickly as there are more people eyeing the trail of tiles.

With 2, you tend to push your luck a lot more and take longer trips. One main reason is you don't want to leave the other player by themselves for a solo expedition where they can run the board. Leaving a single player in an expedition is always a bad idea, but with more players, there's usually less board to go crazy with.

I do suggest you consider the two-player variant in the rules where each player has two colors (and collects and scores for each separately). It keeps the constriction of the board higher, and makes for some interesting decisions as to which of your colors will collect animals (the regular two-player game works fine, but it emphasizes earning multiple 20-point set bonuses more than with the other player counts.
