The Cat Herder Games is a new game being developed by Statistics Learning Centre. The game concept is similar to The Dragon Games we have recently developed.

The Cat Herder Games is aimed at a younger age group. The game setting is cat owners competing to earn medals in a ‘cat herding’ tournament. A single event cane also be played for a shorter game.

Each cat card provides information about the cat including name, age, its nature and toys. As well as cute cat cards the game includes attribute cards, criteria cards and action cards. Different events use the card types in different ways. There is enough variety in the game components that players can make and share their own events and games using the cards.

The game will be able to be used as a teaching resource for the first years of school. The various events help practice math skills - hidden learning is the concept.

Players: 2-5

120 cat cards
12 attribute cards
28 criteria cards
? action cards

We are still working on the game mechanics for all of the events. Some of the event details will change.

We are planning on having up to six events. Current possible events include:

Herding Cats: Players start with three cat cards, facedown. An attribute card is revealed. The first player to herd their cats into pile based on the attribute gets another cat. The first play to get nine cats wins.

Cat Adoption: Players start with six cats, face up. A criteria card is revealed. Players chose one of their cats matching the criteria to put up for adoption. No match means mo adoption. First player to adopt all of their cats wins.

Cat Memory: Eight cat cards are arranged face down. Each player gets a hidden attribute card. Players take turns revealing two cards to see whether they match according to their criteria. If not the cats are turned facedown again. If they match, the player keeps the cards, draws a new attribute and replaces the cat cards in the middle. The first player to get a pre-selected number of pairs wins.

Crazy Cat Ladies: A rummy-type game with players aiming to get one cat of each colour. This event will use the action cards.
