Variant: Two Rooms and a Boom

If you, like me have been frustrated by the availability of this game, all you really need is a Stratego. This is not so much a variant as it is a way to play the game with other components. (come to think of it, you could just use a deck of cards…)

What you'll need:
A knowledge of how to play. (rules available here)
A set of Stratego pieces.
A bag or other container to draw pieces from blindly.
Two leader markers. (I recommend using two phones with this app installed as leader tokens)

How to play:
Divide the Stratego pieces into red and blue and take the appropriate amount for each team. (total number of players divide in half) Ensure that there is only one red bomb and one blue marshal, these will be the Bomber and the President, respectively. If there is an odd number of players, place a mark on one piece to indicate the Gambler. All other pieces are regular team members. Set aside any remaining pieces and put the pieces being used into the draw bag. Each player draws one and play proceeds as normal. Victory conditions are unchanged.

- Color Reveals are done by showing the unlabeled side of the Stratego piece.
- Reveals are done by showing the labeled side of the of the piece.
Note that in both case the Gambler must make it clear that they are on the grey team.

Additional Roles:
Naturally, it would be easy to assign different roles to different numbers. Using the Spies as Spies is a no brainer. Or you can get creative and print custom labels to replace the Stratego ones. Just be sure that everyone knows which numbers correspond to what role before playing. (and that Grey Team members can be identified)
