Battle Above the Clouds

I am totally enamoured by this system right now. For me it is the perfect level of complexity and chrome and when I play I feel like I am immersed in a chapter out of Shelby Foote's trilogy.

Of all my games this one is getting the most love at the moment......

Nine Navies War

I have played this game uncounted hours, and games since picking it up in 2008.

A close second would be ........

Commands & Colors: Ancients + the expansions

Really enjoy the system.

Couldn't agree more, I have this or SJW2 on my table almost all the time. I wish the rest of the series was easier to get hold of in the UK

My favorite at this moment is Baltic Gap. Been playing this game for some time now via mail on vassal and I have to say... this game has kept me awake at night. It is not my best game in my collection but this game has got most of my gaming attention for quite some months now

I'm currently playing a solo game of Battle Above the Clouds just to learn the system and indeed... this looks like it will become one of my favorite systems.

Panzerkrieg

The question was what is my favorite wargame now, and for me, my favorite wargame now is usually the one I'm currently playing. Since I'm playing Panzerkrieg now, it's my current favorite.

I have no idea what my favorite will be after I finish this play of PK!

This is the only look at me you will get. The first hint the bad guy gets that I am nearby will be the sound of the torpedo coming out of his baffles with high up-doppler.

on Vassal in several different scenarios of Unconditional Surrender! World War 2 in Europe. Now well into the Main Event, and we are both enjoying the elegance and many decision choices that they game throws at you.

Thanks Sal Vasta for making a great game!

Edit: ...and thanks to fellow wargamer Mike31 for selling me a nice copy at a fair price. Almost brings a tear to my eye to see an Air Force guy treat a Navy swabbie so nicely!

Never before have I subscribed to the cult of "the latest thing." All the games which have been favorites for me before now were older games which I sort of grew into. The original Desert Fox was one of those, and was in my top five as recently as two months ago.

But this new version is not only an improvement on the original, it is the best game ever done on this subject. It expands the original at both temporal end to include the Italian invasion of Egypt and Operation Compass; and at the other end it goes through Torch to the end in Tunisia. There is a new events matrix which (finally!) solves the problem of dealing with historical arrivals and departures and the knowledge of those by both players. Now you do not know when the other sides reinforcements will come.

All the original strengths of system are retained, or improved. This is the best hex and counter wargame I have ever seen.
