Hello. I picked this game up at GenCon, mainly because my playtime with friends has dwindled so much and I needed to find a way to still play games. I did the basic walkthrough twice before tackling the full solo game.

It took about four hours, which is to be expected with my first game. Last week I tried the Mining scenario from the rulebook, but I noticed that it didn't exactly offer solo rules. I tried to do the setup from the solo full game, and just play the mining scenario, but it really seemed like I would never have enough time to do it in two days.

My question is, in the base game, is there really just one legitimate solo version? If so, that is fine, and I will always just make sure that I have enough time to play it. Or, did I not have enough time as a mix of me not being good enough at the game yet combined with the dummy player forcing lightning fast rounds? He, or she, managed to hit their highest crystal count three times every Round, so time was always a problem for me.

Thanks in advance for any answers.

I did see that in the solo setup section, it says that you can play any scenario solo, just adjusting the setup, which is what I tried to do. I am just unclear as to exactly how it works. Removing one additional countryside and city tiles makes sense. Do I use the three day setup for the solo variant across all scenarios? Or do I use whatever amount of rounds they give for the 2-4 player count?

Have a look at these threads:

edit: the shades of Tezla expansion has a quite short scenario which is playable solo . You don't need any components from the expansion to play it. Just download the rules. (To be fair - if you enjoy the scenario you should consider to buy the expansion. The other stuff is great too.)

Search the variants. You'll find a load of solo scenarios. You'll also find adaptations to the existing ones, such as those already linked.

If you don't have any expansions, get Lost Legion next. That not only adds great stuff to the existing game, but includes some solo scenarios against an enemy Mage Knight that much better than the dummy mechanic.

Or you could try my story-based solo campaign. The first 4 episodes are available so far....

That first thread makes me feel better about my struggles in the Mines, but also tells me that the official rule is still to be in four Rounds. That is a pretty tall order.

BGG user Kin Hassar has put together a wonderful, comprehensive resource for solo scenarios.

This is a pretty nice thread. There are a bunch of solo in here that are not in the base game, as well as all the ones in the base game spelled out specifically for solo. Thanks for the link.
