I just moved in with my roommate who loves board games, but we find that none of the games my collection really scratch either of our itches when we're just wanting to stay in the apartment. These are the wants and the do not wants for the game we're looking for. Our favorite game to play is Pandemic, currently.

WANTS
- Strong Player Interaction
- Either Co-Op or competitive
- Amerithrash/Hybrid
- Direct Combat welcome
- Medium to Heavy ruleset
- High replayability

DO NOT WANT
- RNG elements: They need to be kept to a minimum. Especially decisive dice rolling.
- A Pandemic clone.
- A card game. I know, I want to show him Netrunner and Battle Line and Matcha, but card games just don't do it for him.
- Strict Euro style or Solitaire type games.

Some games that I came up with, but are not entirely sold on are Claustrophobia, Twilight Struggle, and Battlelore. I feel like that the wants and do not wants list is very specific, which is why I'm having problems finding a game. Any suggestions are welcome~!

Hm, I really wanted to recommend Android: Netrunner, but if that's out...

"No card game" means that it really can't be a game with just cards or it shouldn't be an LCG/CCG?
If it really means "no game that relies on cards for its gameplay", I find that a very strong and oddly arbitrary restriction -- there are so many different things you can do with cards (nothing against you or your friend, it's just hard to understand for me personally).

- Shadowrun: Crossfire is a tough, quick and tense coop and very replayable, but cards-only.
- Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island is an amazing and thematic Ameri-Euro hybrid, but has some decicive dice rolling -- although this is push-your-luck: You can always avoid rolling the dice by commiting more resources. Also coop and relatively heavy.

I have you looked at Star Wars: Rebellion? Great two player game with some combat and a lot of player interaction. You are playing cards, but you also have a lot of minis you are moving around the map.

For a clarification on the cards, games like Netrunner and Magic the Gathering are not ok (even though they are some of my personal favorites as well) however a game that utilizes cards that help drive the game forward are fine. Pandemic and Eldritch Horror are great examples of this. The reason for the restriction is because my roommate find card games to be not in the slightest immersive.

I personally love card games, so feel free to suggest them! If you find that a particular card game is steeped in theme, please do let me know.

Puzzle Strike (Third Edition) is what you want. It's a deck builder that uses plastic chips instead of cards. Simulates a fighting game a la Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter. Lots of different chips and characters to choose from, so you can have very different games from one session to the next.

For something cooperative, maybe try Tiny Epic Defenders. This is similar to Pandemic in style of co-op, but feels different enough that I like one and not the other. Cards are used for almost everything, but it isn't a card game, per se.

Wow, ameritrash with low RNG and light on cards ? Ummmm.... good luck

Since co-op is okay, you might try:
- Space Cadets: Away Missions
- Apocalypse Chaos

They both include dice, but in Space Cadets you almost always 'hit' with your dice and its more about how many / which special powers you unlock with your 'overkills'. Still... might be too much dice for you.

With Apocalypse Chaos, the dice are used as instructions on programmable movement and you have lots of mitigation.

But I'm first to admit these might be a reach for what your looking for. Hope you find something.

Yep! Actually, Sekigahara looks like it could be a winner at first glance.

I'm really excited to play this. I'm going to play it at my next gaming group. I'll probably buy it soon afterwards.

I also considered the Columbia block war games like Julius Caesar.

I've been eyeing Lagoon: Land of Druids, which looks like it's sort of a "Magic: The Tile Laying Game" game. It sounds like it's a love it or hate it game, but one review described it as "Hive meets Magic", which sounds like a winner to me.
