Rather than 'epic' it sounds more like a way to shorten the game - let people build up more quickly? I suspect it would imbalance things a bit - if players can get to the DN movement techs more easily than others, or maybe WS straight away. Privateers AC early on could be a game-changer!

But try it and see...

It just seems like whenever you get some of the cool tech and big fleets then the game is over..

I agree, that might be a good way to make it more of a battle game for sure.

Maybe not 10 tech, but I would consider starting with 3 or 4 tech, otherwise the tech stratagy card will never be taken.

I see the Tech tile taken every round, with the 50/50 exception of the last round.

Check out TI3pbf.com and follow the link to the wiki. There are several house rulesets that tinker with various aspects of the game, including rearranging the tech tree to make things more interesting.

If you just want more technology available, use the Technology II strategy card from Shattered Empire.

I think the problem here is that 'Epic' means different things to different people.

10TG and 2 techs, means that you start in the midgame, and get to play with cool stuff earlier - that is 'epic' to you. The game will be shorter as a result.

To others (myself included) 'epic' implies a longer game and a bigger build-up, which is the opposite of what you are doing.

Neither is wrong, it's just an imprecise term...

Why not just play to 14 VPs (with more objectives)? Or 30 VPs if 14 is not epic enough?

Epic is playing with ten or more people.

Which I have done.
