Oh, this is such a shame. Such a wonderful, warm, and caring person now feeding the worms.

Another "Someone I don't like is dead, let's celebrate" display of class.

Hey Hugo, name the next person you wish was dead. C'mon, don't be shy. Actively rout for the death of individuals. Why wait until after the fact?

You expected more?

Dude, yesterday he had no idea who she was.

Now he's an expert, just like the rest of the people who will post to this thread after seeing a blurb on MSNBC.

Never heard of the woman before. It sounds like we'd politically disagree and that I'd find her positions rather ironic given how she chose to live her life. That's based on a online summary which may or may not be entirely accurate.

Come, come! She was fairly famous. I mean, I'm British, and one might perhaps expect Brits not to be aware of her, but even I knew who she was.

I laughed but I don't think you meant this as sarcasm.

Can we just insert a link to the Scalia thread and call this one done?

Oh there are a few thousand that most wouldn't shed a tear for...so what's the point of naming one?

If you really want to class the place up, drink a $4 bottle of wine while reading RSP.

I think its more about cheering the death of someone who breaks their ideology. Phyllis Schlafly was successful without the lefts narrative of needing modern femenism.

Nothing scares the leftist castrati more then an independent successful woman.

Really?

Because it doesn't seem she was all that successful in getting women to give up their rights.

She was an odious, hateful ideologue and bears as much responsibility as anyone for turning the GOP from the party of Eisenhower to the party of religious fundamentalism and intolerance.
It would be hypocritical to feign any kind of sorrow at her passing.

But there is a difference between not mourning the passing of someone and actively celebrating it. I had never heard of her, so I suspect she hasn't had any meaningful cultural influence in at least twenty years. But hey, someone who hasn't been meaningful in twenty years is dead.... let's load her coffin with confetti!

Scalia was having an active effect on our culture. So I could understand people being happy he no longer had that effect. I could understand people letting that spill over into celebrating his death. I found it ugly and distasteful, but there was a relevant effect to it. But this... dredging up someone who hadn't been meaningful in decades just to rejoice at someone's passing? This sounds just like you want anyone who thinks differently than you and has some power to keel over and die.

It is ugly and, in my opinion, makes you a worse person than those whose death you celebrate. This lady was doing what she could to make the world a better place, misguided though her efforts were. She saw the way she thought the world should be and tried to make it happen. But you... you see the way you wish the world was and when someone who sees it differently dies, you rejoice. darth, I expected no better from. Altair... I'm a touch mystified by.

She was a powerful and influential figure in hard-right conservative circles. That you hadn't heard of her tells us more about your level of political engagement than the effect she had on American conservative politics.

Except for the fact she claimed she wasn't and didn't think she should be.
Did you know that you can be a feminist with a perfectly working set of balls?
