Hi,

Also in the game we played yesterday we stumbled upon this litte thing. You are allowed to move up to a total of 4 spaces/steps. If you combine them you can be a smart diver to go down 1, go 2 left/right and go pup again to pay less air. See following examples:

Example 1:
Diver is descending from 25-30m to 30-35m = 1 step
Diver is swimming 2 spaces to the left = 2 steps
Diver is ascending from 30-35m to 25-30m = 1 step
Diver uses only 30 bar of air.
Total possible discoveries = 4

Example 2:
Diver descends 2 spaces = 2 steps
Diver ascend 2 spaces = 2 steps

This is allowed by the rules, but logical your ascends should be slower than your descents. See the following 2 examples what the gameplay looks like if all ascends costs 2 moving steps

Example 3:
Diver is descending from 25-30m to 30-35m = 1 step
Diver is swimming 2 spaces to the left = 2 steps
Diver can’t ascend as this move costs 2 steps, of course he can go 1 down/left/right.
Diver uses 40 bar of air.
Total possible discoveries = 4

Example 4:
Diver descends 2 spaces = 2 steps
Diver ascend 1 spaces = 2 steps

In the first two examples you will not experience any form of penalty due ascending. In the last two examples you will.
What do you think of this?

Kind regards,
Benjamin

Hi Benjamin,

We have limited the ascending speed (without deco rules) to 10m per minute. It doesn't really matter how fast you descend, so those two aren't linked together. So yes, example 1 is often used in order to use some less air.
