I had the pleasure of playing Peter M recently, and I had mostly decided in advance to go for a FPMV, just to practice that strategy. We ended up with an entertaining game.

Here's the log: https://www.dropbox.com/s/h1oom7cmyp8f198/Ira_Peter_military...

(I would have posted this in Session reports, but for some reason BGG reviewers didn't think this was a valid session post.)

I think anyone interested in FPMV might find it interesting.

Along with it, after the game, we were discussing various probabilities, so I created this simulation, too: http://irafay.com/wotr3.php

Fantastic game, and it reinforces my old point of wiew: "The only necessary thing about a FPMV is take the decision of doing so". do you remember Ira our old challenge match? Nice job.

You were absolutely my inspiration!! And yes, I remember that game very well, since it's fundamentally changed my ideas about WotR. My respect for the game designers deepened, knowing that such asymmetry and strategies were possible even for experienced players.

This looks really interesting, but is there a good way to read the log?

Looking at it as a straight text file is pretty indecipherable.

Here's a link to the online ladder: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1heX5V4VSGD4hfMjC_gLh...

And if you look at that spreadsheet in the "Java Client" section, here are the links to download the java client (either link works):

With the client, you can watch replays and play with others online. Enjoy!

Wow. That's a nice program. I'm watching your play.

Thanks.

Quite good match but there was enough luck involved that i am sure it's is not something you can do every time.

Through day and Night, House of Stewards, Guards of the Citadel AND Faramirs Ranger having all at once is beyond rare from my Games. :-P And getting Aragorn (and nearly Gandalf the White) that early was just icing on the cake.

Still an awesome game which made me think about trying it more often as well.

Certainly there was some luck involved! There always will be.

I think my cards were perhaps above average, but there are many good cards when you're going with a military strategy as FP.

Regarding Aragorn early, it's quite easy to get Aragorn by turn 2, assuming you roll a WoW on turn 2. And if you do that, then it's often easy to get Gandalf the White by turn 2 or 3. I probably should have separated Gandalf the Grey at the beginning of the game too, so I didn't have to waste time moving the fellowship to get him killed, but I did get to draw some extra cards, so it was perhaps worth it.
