Coming off a disastrous 35-7 exhibition loss to the Banditos in which Andy Fortune threw more picks than completions, the Omegas were looking to head into week 1 with their heads held up high. But a good test was waiting for them. None other than Harry Danders and the Kittens. What a way to start the season.
Omegas are home team, and elect to play 8 on 8. Skills are allowed for this game.
The Kittens win the coin toss and elect to receive.
The first play of the game sees Danders taking a direct snap. He runs right by the left tackle's block, jukes a linebacker, and breaks into the open field. One failed tackle! Two! Touchdown Danders! The Omegas are seeing the Banditos all over again.
Omegas take over the ball. Interestingly, Marvin lines up as a back, to the right of Fortune, and Erickson gets the TE spot. Hand off to Marvin, who runs across the backfield to the left, finds a hole opened up by some excellent blocking, and breaks away! Brought down at the Kittens 35 by Danders. But he fumbled it! By some miracle (and the fact that the Kittens used all their Danders and #62 cards), Marvin gets up and manages to fall on the ball at the 45. What could have been a very scary situation for the Omegas turns into a nice gain of 35.
Second down. Marvin in the slot, Erickson in the Wideout position on the left side. Hike! Using an adjustment, Fortune runs left, Erickson runs right, and they meet up in front of a nice hole. Erickson takes the ball, attempts to run block, and gets a critical failure! He is down! Tackled by 62 of the Kittens at the 25 for a 20 yard gain. Timeout Omegas to put 1 minute on the clock, saving their other timeout.
Third down, last play of the half. Fortune drops back. Marvin shakes his way into the secondary, moving diagonal left. But he hits Danders. Fortune then throws a pass to the right of Marvin in the endzone. A beautiful fade hitch route! Touchdown Omegas!
7-7 at the half.
Omegas take the ball from the 20. Fortune is flushed out of the pocket, and hands it off to Erickson, who fights his way through the Kittens for 10 yards.
Second down doesn't go any better for the Omegas, as Fortune is sacked by 65 for 10 yards. The Omegas are beginning to panic, and are having a difficult time stopping the Kittens defense, which has grown more aggressive in this second half. They've got to beat the blitz with a long one.
Third and eighty. Fortune is flushed out of the pocket again, but this time finds Marvin in a good position for a route pass. 8+ and Marvin makes a great play and gets a solid gain. 5+ and there is a chance for a pick, though it involves Danders winning the roll off. But Fortune was not very lucky, and up comes a 3. Interception by Kittens 51 at the 40 yard line! He's at the thirty! The twenty! The ten! Touchdown Kittens! A pick six for the Kittens with only one minute left on the clock! Omegas call their final timeout to allow for two more plays (hopefully).
A fierce blitz leads to Fortune throwing a quick screen to Erickson, who is brought down for no gain. The Omegas are worried now.
Andy Fortune sets up with four receivers and a spread formation for the linemen. He drops back. Marvin attempts to shake off 51 on the Kittens. He fails! In comes Danders! He goes in for the sack! And Fortune is down! The Kittens win!!!!!
