Subject: How to split up the species for expansion gaming rss

So I've been thinking about something for a while. When the expansions come out we will have the options not only for adding players or replacing a species in the base game, but to actually split up the base game into 3 parts.
An example: If you want to play 2 3-player games and players want to play:
Ferengi/Klingon/Federation
and
Cardassian/Romulan/(Tholian)

The easiest ways are to just divide the deck into 3 piles or to divide the piles into their parts and then shuffle an even amount into 3 stacks. (the parts being Virgin/Civ./Dis./Cri. and for planets into #of nodes and phenomenon).

I decided to try and make of list of relevant landmarks for each species and cards that make sense for them. The planets are a little unbalanced, so I may be redoing a list later. (the two plants in parenthesis could go with the respective species or be split up between the two games, or left out depending on how many planets the expansions come with).
Please let me know what you think!

interesting, i think for the exploration cards i would just shuffle them up and split the deck. we hardly get through the deck as it is to the balance between the two halves would be rather moot.

for the planets i would make sure an even number of planets/phenom in each stack and not worry about the rest.

or even better if the games were being played in the same room you could just share the same decks for both games.

Its worth thinking about, although I don't see myself running two games at once here. My thoughts so far on playing with the expansions have simply run to playing one game by putting all of the available systems in one pile for 3-5 races, and just leaving out the Home Systems of any faction not included.

We won't have a sixth faction until Christmas 2016 or so anyhow. My main thinking about Postexpansion Play has been about fitting 4-5 players on my table at once. Do I insist on proportional expansion, or go for a smaller playing area, where Initial Contact will just happen faster?

Given the randomness of exploration in any one game, and the many possible systems layout variations I've already encountered, I don't know that ensuring a systems equality on both tables is all that important. My first two games violated any kind of statistical average for their layouts, and we still had fun with them.

True, but one reason to split them up is to get new cards into play more often.

In one of my games we used every system and half of the exploration deck!

Well, we all have different experiences. I've used all the systems up in one game, but nothing like that number of exploration cards. In fact, there are still one or two that have not come up in my first nine games!
