I swear I read this somewhere in the pre-release articles. I do not see it anywhere in the rulebook. Do attach ships have to be the same class and model?

The information you want is on the Docking Clamps card. Last line:
"All these ships must have the same ship type."

...if you interpret "ships" loosely then surely I can do this!

Ok Follow-up:

Does it matter which version (nomenclature) of ship? i.e. Can you mix F.O. TIEs with old TIEs?

They're only versions in terms of fluff. The type of one ship is "TIE Fighter", the type of the other ship is "TIE/FO Fighter".

The text of the ship name (e.g. TIE Fighter or TIE Bomber) has to match exactly on all docked ships.

So four TIE Fighters, but not two TIE Fighters and two TIE/fo Fighters.

Heheh, for some reason all I can imagine is the AT-AT's runninging in place once the docking claps are removed and they float away....

I think Star Wars Rebels actually showed AT-AT's being landed this way.

The Gozanti in that photo needs a big grin painted on its snout.

I'm also imagining the Gozanti still clamped to the two AT-AT's as they run in unison across the battlefield.
