That's the number he entered into the system. Same as how everybody else has however many plays of whatever games on BGG.

i guess that's one weakspot for the num-plays stats... it can be goofed and/or used to artificially hype-up a game by enthusiastic folks by entering more plays than what has actually transpired.

maybe better would be to only allow 1 play per entry (forcing some to click a button 2 billion times to log a ridiculous number like that).

I do. Google the number. It's either an attempt to crash the server, or he put in a much larger integer and that's what the system responded with.

So the system is just making a conservatory estimate?

The actual intent is the real question. Created an account only to log these plays is strange in itself. Some cursory searching leads me to believe it's a "summer" goof, though.

Why? What value does this add? How does it offset the tangible harm to people who record mass plays? How do Joe Geek's plays of Clue hurt you?

tl;dr let it go

It's more likely that he entered "-1" as a joke and the BBS system is only using unsigned integers. The signed int -1 == unsigned int 0x7FFFFFFF == the largest value holdable in 31 bits == 2147483647

Fair enough. It's some 31/32 bit integer overflow bug / exploit. Try 4294967296 and see what happens. Maybe 2^31-1 is simply the max that the BBS accepts (signed int max) and he did that deliberately.

It's probably not the number of plays, just the number of guesses in one game before figuring out the correct solution.

Maybe just the number of die rolls to move around the board.

Wow... I'm bad at clue and I've never needed 2 billion guesses. You must be really bad at the game OR forget to use the little sheets they provide so you don't keep guessing the same thing over and over....

Ladies and gentlemen, I think he either has a 100,000 copies or the first ever copy of Game of Thrones Clue.

The "most played" stats are collated and published each month, and usually make for interesting reading. If people are deliberately f***ing with that, then that's disappointing.

In this case, it's so obviously false data I assume it will be omitted, and no harm will be done. But it does highlight how the logged play data is open to abuse.

It's not the end of the world, but it is a shame that people act like such f***wits on the Internet.
