I had a great time being your Geek of the Week! I want to thank all the users who asked questions and congratulated me. My nominee is a great personality in this industry, Marty Connell. He has a great board game podcast called Rolling Dice & Taking Names podcast that he co hosts with his long time friend Tony Mcree. Enough of my Babble, lets hear from Marty himself!

Quote:
I have been a video and board gamer since the Atari 2600 and Uno. I have fond childhood memories of playing all sorts of games with my family and friends. As a parent, I want my three sons to have the same great memories of everyone sitting around the table captivated by cards/tokens/miniatures, feeling great about a win, learning how to deal with losses, but having fun regardless of the outcome. I did not discover the sub-culture of “geek” gaming until 2000 through the Lord of the Rings TCG. From there, a whole new world of card games, board games, RPGs and miniature wargaming was opened up to me and I dived in head first. As my sons started taking interest in his hobby, I gladly cultivated their interest and supported whatever games they wanted play. Even my wife, a non-gamer just a few short years ago, now loves the gaming culture and gets “geeked up” as anyone for board game nights and trips to gaming conventions.

In 2012, myself and long time friend, Tony McRee, started a gaming podcast called Rolling Dice & Taking Names. I enjoy using this show as a creative outlet to engage with community and talk about a hobby that means so much me, my family and friends.

This is a such a huge honor and one I really don't feel I deserve.

But thanks to Pete for the nomination and I'll do my best to fulfill my responsibilities as GotW. If I can not then the runner up...wait, that was for that pageant I was in.

1. Being from the south, Moon Pies are considered a staple food along with grits and pimento cheese. It became associated with our show when it came up a few times and people didn't know what they were. So we brought some to conventions to give out and let people try and it just kind of stuck

2. Tony and I love to talk about games. In the past we had thought about doing podcasts on other subjects and we realized this was the natural fit and direction we should go. Now as far as becoming a personality, I'm still trying to get one of those

3. Terra Mystica. With all the factions it has, it feels like a different game everytime I play it.

4. According to the standings, the Bucs have been inferior to the Panthers since 2011

Marty, have you lived in Charlotte all your life? I spent three years of my childhood living there, from about 1981-1984. Wondered if we might have been neighbors at some point!
