Warriors of Athena
It can be found in "Wargames, Soldiers and Strategy" Magazine Issue 86.
I bought a digital copy from the publishers website.

What is it?
It is frostgrave in mythic ancient Greece. Take on quests given by the gods.
The article is about 5 pages with rules and a small campaign.
You need the frostgrave core rulebook to play, unless you already know the rules well enough.

I'm really excited about this one, and really really hope it gets expanded upon.
I have been searching for a skirmish game set in mythic ancient Greece, and this fits the bill perfectly. Especially since I already love Frostgrave, and know the rules.

This has tons of potential, so let Joe know, and the magazine company as well, so they ask him to write more.

Check it out.

Digital copy purchased and skimmed. Looks interesting and so did the rest of the magazine until I got to the advertising on page 21 for "cheeky female characters". I thought the hobby had moved away from this but obviously not.

Anyway this variant by the author could be quite versatile. Interesting that the author is presenting it outside Osprey.
Will print it tomorrow and look forward to a good read.

Actually I only found out about the magazine because of the "Warriors of Athena". I found it on Joe's blog. Never heard of it before that.
I wrote to them and said I would purchase more issues, if they had extra content for Warriors of Athena, or Frostgrave.. hehe, maybe it will push them to have Joe write more for it.

There are actually a few articles he wrote with little extra bits for Frostgrave in various magazines.

Yeah, saw that.. might buy it later. Always love an addition to the monster list. Plus would give rules to use for other ranged attack monsters.

If anyone has that "The Cuelebre" monster stuff in English.. that would be great. Says it is a dragon-like creature.
It is in a Spanish magazine called "Falcata", but that would make it all in Spanish, so not sure I want to buy the whole magazine I can't read.

Also there is an article that introduces some new magic items in Wargames Soldier and Strategy Issue 83

Just made a Warband sheet for this game. Might need a few changes later, but should work fine.
Based the layout on another contributors Frostgrave sheet design (not sure he is on BGG)

I made a pdf of it if anyone wants it.

I'm making enemy cards for the baddies in the scenarios and ones that would work well for the setting that are already in Frostgrave like the Hydra, Minotaur and skeletons. Cultists would work well I think. As well as a lot of the animals, boars, rats, bears...

Lots of potential campaigns following the myth stories.

Thinking outloud

12 part campaign following the Labors of your hero(Heracles)

1. Save the damsels from the Nemean Lion
(have a number of women in the cave, one is the lion who transforms and attacks when in base contact)
This could be done by having them each numbered on the bottom of the bases and a die roll at the beginning.
2. Slay the hydra in the swamp
Would have to add something to make the scenario more interesting.
3. Capturing the Ceryneian Hind
Maybe something using traps placed by the warband
4. Erymanthian Boar
First fight though a group of drunken Centaurs and then capture the boar
....
and so forth.

anyway, just thinking outload like I said.

One of the cards I made:

Very nice! Will you upload them all when they are finished? Can never have too many monsters.
It's got me thinking too - Pirates could be fun with lots more possibilities.

Yeah, worked on a number of new ones today. Don't have stats for all of them, so will only post the ones I have official stats for, and maybe we can work out stats for some of the others later.

Got the basic ones from the campaign. Then added Minotaur, Spartoi (skeletons/soldiers that pop up from dragon's teeth, or a hydra's in the movie), Hydra, Basiliskos (Basilisk)

Then made blank ones for Manticore and Chimera. Planning to do harpies, caldonian boar, Nemian lion, Cyclopes, the graeae, giant crab, cetus the sea monster, talos (which would work as a large construct), wildmen, amazons, nymphs, centaurs (not always good-guys), regular boars, bears, rats, spiders, pegasi, cerberus, and maybe a few more.

Some of the above already have stats in the frostgrave books, but a number will have to be figured out (hopefully with more content for the game, or by us)

Ordered my first minis for this. But will take 1 month to arrive, save on shipping though.

In the meantime will have to build some Greek terrain and a new table. I think 2'x2' table is good since the campaign scenarios all take place on that size.

Update: Added the card backs to the download link.

E-mailed Joe about my enthusiasm for this and he says there will be more content for it coming in the future.

......................................................
Got around to painting up some minis for this as well. While waiting for the order from overseas, I looked around and came up with several minis I already had that will work for this.

One for the Drakon Kholkikos (The Dragon that Jason had to face to get the fleece). From ancient dipictions of it, it looks like a big snake. However it is also called a dragon, so I'm using a serpent-dragon (like a big snake with wings.)
Also had a bunch of harpies sitting around.

Also started a 2'x 2' board for the scenarios as well. Will probably make a few temples and normal dwellings as well as some ruins and columns.
Need some medium and large rocks, and vegetaion for general scatter terrain. Also found some trees that look kinda like olive trees.

Scenario specific will have to make a campfire and the staked up prisoners, statues and cave walls. Back with pictures when I get more done.

FYI - if you ever looking for a cheap supply of Greek-themed (both historical and legendary) minis, pick up a copy of Age of Mythology: The Boardgame.
