Hi all. Just a few days after receiving New Bedford (and about 10 plays in) I decided I wanted to make a faster way to setup the game and sort the pieces.
After a few hours of Inventor, I created this:

All the pieces fit nicely.

Here is what it looks like without the boards.

A straighter view.

The resource trays are slightly shallower than the whale holders.
This way they both align evenly when sitting atop the boards.
(Also, I have designed inserts for where the bag is, but I decided I like the bag there better.)

Each whale holder holds 1/3 of the buildings (including all the ones from Rising Tide!)
Since their are so few Sperm whales, the White Whale Promo tiles get stacked with them.

Up close of the card holder. The die, solo captain disks, and small bits sit next to the cards.

The resource trays lift out and are ready to play with right away!

STL files are available: STL FILES
Feel free to modify or use however you want.
I used a M3d Micro 3d printer which is one of the smallest (and cheapest) 3d printers available, so these should be printable on any printer.

Also, if anyone is interested, I uploaded an Excel file that aids and makes setting up the buildings faster, as well as an Excel file that replicates the whaling phase (we use this instead of drawing whales by hand).

I have contacted Nat and he is ok with me also creating a New Bedford companion app. Hopefully Dice Hate Me Games will like it and let me then use their art assets!

Print times and material used on my printer:
Whale/Building Holder: 650 inches, 510 minutes (x3)
Resource Tray: 507 inches, 390 minutes (x6)
Card Tray: 417 inches, 360 minutes (x1)
Extra Card Tray: Not using
1 roll of PLA filament is $22.99 which is 11000 inches
So that totals:
$11.30 in material and 70.5 hours on M3d Micro 3d Printer

If anyone has any suggestions, questions, comments, complaints, criticisms, etc. Please let me know!

Thank you,

Enoch Wright

That's purely awesome! Now I just need to find someone with a 3D printer! You don't have a Shapeways account by any chance, do you?

If you want, I will also upload the STL files to Shapeways. I'll put at cost with no markup, cause I know how expensive they are... wouldn't be cheap.

One solution would be to use 3dhubs.com, which is people that own 3d printers that will print items for you and mail them (or let you pick them up) to you, its a lot more affordable than Shapeways...

Well, that'd be great! I never heard of 3dhubs. Thx!

Just hover over my Avatar for an example of 3dhubs.com
There are lots of printers out there and the local ones are the best to choose from so you can pick up without having to add shipping.

This is exactly why I plan to get a 3D printer.

Awesome work!

To confirm, you need to print 3 of the Building and Whale Holders, 6 of the Resource Trays, and a single Card Holder?

What's the Extra Card Holder for?

Yikes. Assuming I was correct (6 resource trays, 3 whale holders, and one card holder), I'm looking at anywhere between $45 and $140 on 3dhubs.com. That seems awfully expensive...

3D Printing is definitely expensive. An alternative would be to make a similar insert from foamcore although you're really trading time for money there. i plan to put together a foamcore solution for this when i get some time but not sure when that will be.

I didn't print the extra card holders, but if you look in the rendered image above, its 2 holders that go where I put the bag.

And yes to confirm, 6 resource trays, 3 Building/Whale holders, 1 Card holder, and optionally 2 extra card holders. (Or put the bag there like I did)

So on my printer the total cost to print a full set is $11.30 and 70.5 hours. (On Medium quality!)

Whale/Building Holder: 650 inches, 510 minutes (x3)
Resource Tray: 507 inches, 390 minutes (x6)
Card Tray: 417 inches, 360 minutes (x1)
Extra Card Tray: Not using

1 roll of PLA filament is $22.99 which is 11000 inches

Do basic math and we get the total of $11.30 at 70.5 hours... that is however on my very slow little M3D Printer. On a Makerbot or something similar it would take less than a quarter as long at approximately the same cost...

Thanks for these. I have a friend who will be printing these out for me. He got one of the whale holder trays done which looked great and the pieces fit nicely.

Glad to hear it! I printed a set for myself and a set for Czech. Does take a while to print...

Once you get it done, please share pictures and experience with it. If you find things that can be improved, please let me know!

Thanks!

Excellent work! Does this support the contents of the expansion?

Yes, yes it does.

(Alright, so depending, your box lid might sit a little high if you put the 5 player board in with the insert)

Also, putting the whaling boards on top of the resource trays acts as a lid and works well.

Thanks!

Excellent work! Just printed it all and trying to get it all to fit.

Where do you put the white whale promo cards? They are larger than tiles and other cards?

With expansion, the food tokens don;t all fit in a single tray, did you span two trays?

If so, where do you put the payed tokens (ships)?

thanks in advance!

I had like 4 food pieces that I put with the boats. For the white whale cards, I tuck them into the rulebook. Not sure what you mean by payed tokens?
