Probably the first Combat Commander game on Bora Bora

Wednesday we flew in to beautiful Bora Bora and found our cheap lodging at the very extreme south tip of the main island.

After Donna’s scuba dives yesterday we sat down at the seafront share-kitchen table for an RSG game.

It pitted my SS company against a defending American Veteran company on hedge-obstructed board 43 oriented narrowly. Those 3 points Donna spent for wire were my downfall.

Every Fritz who entered the wire to peek through the hedge was inexorably shot down. I did not manage to cause a single American casualty. Neither of my HMGs ever fired a round. My artillery was double-denied immediately after their first smoke barrage scattered 6 hexes off the map. Soon one of my scrounged HMGs was firing with the defenders. The Americans could always get two 15fp attacks per fire order. Of 15 German Move orders played, only one was not met by opportunity fire, and once my bloodied boys got adjacent to the Americans, the Yanks were always 2 or three points superior in melee fp. My CC skills are clearly slipping. I just don’t know how to cross a wire-defended obscuring hedge backed at a distance by immense firepower.

On our holiday Donna has now won six of eight games of CC
Americans have won six of eight
Defenders have won seven of eight

When will the pendulum swing back?

Chick

I'm pretty sure this is how vacations are supposed to go. I've been in Aruba lying on a beach, bored out of my mind. CC would have been awesome.

So, did you attack and shout, "Bora! Bora! Bora!" Oh, wait... Never mind.

This is the game gods way of saying you should have brought CCP.

If you had you could have said, "This is the first WWII battle in the Pacific fought on Bora Bora.

"Hey, Joe! Got any live ones!?", (but Joe had no grenades). The tank rumbled nearer. Johnny stuffed explosives into his gloves, burrowed deep in the muck and waited; then deftly slapped them into a greasy tread axle and spun for cover; snap-firing...

Advance Orders (no OpFire) or possibly smoke and hope for no sudden breezes?
