How do I know if any of my Artillery are Mortars or Howitzers?
I am playing the first Senario and the Artillery chit has been pulled.

13.5.8 in the Dresde Regulations notes that howitzers do not have medium or extreme ranges. The lone Prussian howitzer battery (7 lb #1, in the artillery reserve) appears in scenarios 3 and 4. If you look at the back of its counter, it has an "H" instead of a number for its medium range value, and the cannonball symbol on the front has a small "bump" (representing a fuse) on its top. The French mortars are located in the bastions of the Altstadt and have an "M" instead of a number for their medium range value.

The bottom line is that the artillery in scenario 1 is all standard (no howitzers or mortars), and no artillery leaders of special ability are present to form a grand battery, so the artillery chit can be excluded.

Thank you very much Paul.
Finding it slow and involved.

I also wondered about that, but assumed they only appear in the main game. Thanks for asking this and the answer is most useful. Agree the game is slow, this is my first La Batille game, BUT after about 50 hours of learning and practice I am starting to play the game in a fashion and enjoying the ebb and flow of the battle. Starting to see morale and command and control are actually quite important in this game, even/especially in scenario 1.
