At 177, it's now ranked higher than MoM 1st Ed. at 179. And its ranking is just going to keep going. It'll reach Top 100 soon...

This is no surprise to me. The game is easier to teach, easier to play, and is far less fiddly the the original. It also improves on some of the more interesting parts of the game in significant ways (better puzzles, map "fog of war").

2nd Ed has a higher rating for me personally now as well.

It's newer, so obviously it's better.

All kidding aside, if it fixes the major issue of having a DM basically control the game for the other players, then I can certainly see why it would be rated higher.

Having only played once and only the 2nd Ed, I have to agree. I can't imagine how clunky it would be to go back now to play a game of 1st Ed without the app.

I'm going to have to try this....the one time I played at a local convention with Rick and Josh, it felt way too much like a RPG with a DM. It felt like we were playing against him, and felt like he was holding all the cards.

What does that really mean?

It's newer and therefore is garnering more enthusiasm.

I don't really understand why anyone would be invested in the rankings of a game.

It's waaaay easier to set-up and play than the original, although I deduct marks for still having the same crappy miniatures with the same (now obsolete) godawful black bases.

The game opens up to Soloing which the first didn't. You now have a large pool of potential ratings to fill from.

Now I am curious. Can anyone name any new edition of a game that didn't go higher than the first?

I'll second this - As I have bought it and pre-ordered the two expansions.

Perhaps, if you count Rex as a new edition of Dune? Kind of an edge case...
