I haven't played this game yet, only read the rules a couple of times, but I must have missed what this counter is good for. Can anyone help me?

There is no point... unless your short term memory is less than 5 seconds, in which case you can use him to mark which of the many auction spaces you are currently resolving during each day.

I use him as the turn marker. Wrong, I know but it gives him some useful employment.
