Deric Lostutter, one of the guys who hacked rollredroll.com to post videos and evidence exposing the Steubenville rapists is facing 16 years in federal prison at his trial later this year.

Of the two Steubenville rapists that were convicted one served two years and one ten months (of a year sentence) in juvenile detention. The latter also got right back on the football team after he got out.

Those are some fucked up priorities.

We treat juveniles seperately for a reason though (or we used to, each time I hear 'tried as an adult', I want to kick a puppy)

Moral of this story?

Don't fuck with football...

Jeez, this is ridiculous. Hopefully the judge will acquire common sense and give the guy probation or a deferred sentence.

Of course we do, and should. But primarily because the court needs to take into account the relative development/capacity of its defendants. An eight year old may not be able to grasp the finality of even murder, while a 17 year old breaking and entering to steal alcohol can be a teachable moment that can be solved with restitution and contrition.

But sixteen year-olds gang raping and taking pictures of an unconscious girl is not something that goes away and it's not something they're unaware is very, very wrong. Unless, of course, they were raised in a culture that treated them as above the rules because they were successful sports players. In that case I would expect those who taught them that to be punished in their stead, or at least in addition. But the singular adult who was charged with perjury and obstruction served just ten days in jail and a year of probation.

Just to be clear, they are old enough to have sex, get an abortion and so on. But if they kill someone they are all of the sudden not mature enough to have reasoned through that process of consequences ?

That's fucked up. Why didn't the prosecutor just let it go considering the reasons for the hack?

Facing a maximum of sentence of sixteen years if convicted is a lot different than being convicted and sentenced.

I don't know what the maximum sentence the football players were facing but they certainly got off ridiculously light. I suspect, at least hope, the hacker will be offered a reasonable deal.

I watched the son of a good friend go through the Federal court system. Those wheels turn slowly. It took over 3 years from date of arrest to sentencing.

Edit: And pleaded guilty and spent 10 months on home incarceration prior to the sentencing hearing.

Just saying, don't break federal law. Federal time is hard time, no parole, and really hard to get time reduced for good behavior.

Federal time is a bitch!

Stick to state law crimes, like murdering locals.

Because rape is not a real crime (especially when it's by the rich and famous).

You and Bill Clinton are soul mates.
And apparently so are the people who do not think rape is a serious as hacking.
