How does this do with 3 players? None of us have played it before and we're getting together this weekend to play.

Advice?

3 players works ok-ish, better than 4 or 5. Of course you will miss something, and the game can easily become two against one.

It doesn't. Put it back on the shelf and take out Game of Thrones CCG 2nd edition instead.

Meh. IMO there's better games out there for 3 players

As I've already posted you can get a lot of mileage out of 3 player. I'd go for it and it could work well for you. You have to block off the south and only play Lannister, Baratheon and Stark.

Yup, "not to play it at all" is always the best choice for me but I'm playing it because my step-son and my step son-in-law have been wanting to play it for almost a year now and we can never get more than the three of us to play it. They are both extremely into Game of Thrones TV show (I never watched it and besides , watching Sean Bean die in every episode seems boring) and they are really wanting to bust it out despite my warnings about playing it with less than 6.

Also, none of us have played it before,....soo.....there's that, too.

Okay, Thanks! Maybe I can get them to play Mansions of Madness 2e instead.

Forget about Mansions of Madness. Game of Thrones 3 player is worth a shot ! I'll try to upload a photo of where you should block off the south. I use a mountain range.

I'd have to disagree. 4 is the min. I prefer the 5 player game even if there might be issues

Mortego. if they are huge fans, playing it with 3 will be fine just for the experience, practice, that way if you ever do get 5 or 6, at least you're not all having to learn the game.

Here's a quick reference sheet for some of the rules we played wrong at the start and a reminder of a few things, when the games not been out for a while due to other games.

It wont make sense if you don't know how to play it but when you do and the issue comes up, it saves a lot of rule book diving.

4 is great with A Feast for Crows, but without I felt 3 plays better.

Like you said, any number is fine for the first plays.

I had approval declined because of bad glare so I've attempted to darken the image here :

...also approval declined for underexposure...I don't get the feeling that BGG is being particularly appreciative of the effort I've put in here to be helpful !

Put it on a image hosting site and then link it here, it will still embed if you use the right code.

Enjoy it with three players. In fact I'd say I'm equally satisfied with a game of three player as I am 4 with a feast for crows.

I think you can upload images to your personal gallery without the need for approval, IIRC. They can be a bit over-protective of the game-specific galleries.

soooo,....it went okay. The others were totally geeked up by names of places and related story lines but i has zero idea of what they were talking about. I was lanister and they giggled....idk.

The game for the first round was done via the FFG video tutorial and reading the book. We [pretty much got everything right but didn't know any strategy until mid game.

it wasn't as wonky as i thought it would and yes there is a lot of book keeping stuff but it all made sense.

Over all i'd say i would play this game again.

I've found that Stark, in the North with more spread out territory to defend, has the toughest time in that 3 player combination. More often Baratheon or Lannister have come out on top.
