Just starting a thread to keep track of my gaming antics with the TIE Defenders.
In his house at R'lyeh dead Cthulhu waits dreaming...
Hey I've been enjoying reading your blog, it is a very entertaining read. I am very new to X-Wing and I've been voraciously gobbling up every bit of info I can on the game. Even just watching matches and reading about them seems to help fill the huge gap of knowledge I jumped in with.
I am lucky enough to have gotten my best friend interested in the game, and he favors Imperial ships, which works out perfectly as I prefer the Rebels (sorry ) or Scum faction. I'm trying to help him as he wants to try to build a TIE swarm. What build did your son use fielding all those fighters - that was quite an impressive swarm!
We are both very new still but between us we currently have three core sets (I don't use my TIE ships so they are freely available) and I'm trying to figure out what to advise him to get next. I'm assuming he will need more core sets as that would seem to be the most cost efficient way to gain more stock TIE Fighters for his squad?
He has added Impreial Aces, a defender, the special forces TIE, and a TIE Advance just to add to his fleet for future consideration, but he is interested in building a swarm and sharpening his piloting skills on it.
Any advice you could offer would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance and I'm looking forward to part 5!
Thanks for the comments.
My sons swarm list from memory was:
7 x Academy Pilots
1 x Epsilon Squadron Pilot
This kept him at 99 points as well for a small initiative bid.
If you and your friend have 6 TIE's between you then I wouldn't buy another core set. If you end up purchasing the Gozanti cruiser that has a lot of TIE Fighter pilots that are great and also another two TIE's included. Secondly I'd recommend to pick up the TIE Fighter expansion as that has Howlrunner in it who single handedly makes the Swarms incredible.
Keep me in the loop and let me know how you guys progress!
Oh and here is part 5!
