Price has also been marked down to 76.95. This is cheaper than the $85.50 that it has been available for previously.

Would this be a good first 18XX game? I ask because my father has been looking for an 18XX to play with some of his war game buddies and I also saw this come up on CSI today. His birthday is next week and he is impossible to buy for so I thought this might be a good present.

This, but make sure to address the misprints. Mayfair can't make a reprint of a perfectly functional game without screwing it up.

Agreed. Or grab the GMT version of 1846. 1844/1854 has a lot of chrome and the rulebook can be hard to get through.
