Just a thought here...

The success of the board gaming industry is a testament to the gift of capitalism, free markets and the entrepreneur. The result of the geniuses behind each and every game, and the risks they take to bring them to market, guarantees that consumers have a wide selection to choose from at at fair market prices.

How pathetic would life be if Bernie had it his way and the government were able to limit the number of Deodorant brands or board games available on store shelves? What would become of our hobby if Hillary and the socialists allowed us only to purchase the games 'Sorry!' and 'Monopoly' at outrageous government-inflated prices? Would you still enjoy your game nights?

Capitalism works.

This November, vote for the candidate mostly likely to further individual liberty and personal responsibility, defend Capitalism and promote free markets. Vote for the candidate who will value a constitutionally limited government, and manage the government in a fiscally responsible manner.

Thanks for reading.

The board game market is not healthy
Too many games is creating huge inventory pressures on distributors and stores. There are a few hits thst people are doubling down on, but the explosion of kickstarter games is making niche games even more niche- by the time a store can get a kickstarter game, everyone who wants it owns it.

I see a continuation of consolidation, as Asmodee and Hasbro continue to use their superior position to own more and more of the 20-30 titles that actually sell. Once this occurs, they'll kill off inventory of slower moving games, and then cull them from the catalog, like what happened with Zman's extensive back catalog.

Then, the big two or three will use their market position to lower the number of games coming out, other than kickstarters.

Enjoy the glut while it lasts. There is a market correction coming and its going to massively change the market.

Are there a lot of board games coming out of the heavy socialist nations ?

Also funny to see the people who rail against capitalism on their evil capitalist computers.

If you want to engage in deeper thought, you might recognize that capitalism is merely an economic model which promotes the free flow of capital in an amoral fashion. In a utopian world, where everyone acts as ethical citizens it would work very well.

However, we don't live in a utopian world. In our world, unrestrained capitalism leads to (and has manifested in):

Monopolies, Usury, Child labor, Unsafe workplaces, Contaminated air/water/land, Exhaustion of natural resources, Inefficient and haphazard urban growth, and on and on and on.

It is a fallacy that pure capitalism leads to totally efficient outcomes. Actual efficiency requires at least more information than market participants are generally willing to share and some restraints and/or cost impositions to ameliorate the costs borne by third parties, otherwise known as externalities.

Maybe that cartoon does not convince you but here are some cold, hard data that capitalism is an economic system that benefits a few:

Do you count manufacturing? Or is China not a heavy socialist nation? A term you seem to have invented.
If you mean design then games are designed in countries that have a culture of design for Western nations. I.e. western nations. I have no idea what goes on inside China.

There is no such thing as a free market. And markets tend to limit meaningful choice, not broaden them. Successful designers and publishers aren't geniuses, they're merely fortunate enough to be in the right position at the right time. Prices vary wildly, and depend upon myriad variables, ensuring someone, somewhere is getting screwed. The hobby is also a disaster for the environment, with externalized costs that can't be reckoned in dollars, creating so much waste and inefficiency because the artificial scarcity of copyright and the monetary system ensures that many individuals in a community have to purchase an individual copy, keeping it in a closet, taking up space, often unused and ultimately ending up in a landfill, rather than being able to print out their own and then recycle the material later after playing, or borrowing and sharing them.

The industry, and all industries, will only flourish and reach its potential when we unburden ourselves of these and other artificial and arbitrary restrictions and allow all people to flourish and reach theirs. And capitalism will have nothing to do with it.

Yeah, and don't vote for ANY candidate that reaps the benefits of government regulations! Things like... filing for bankruptcy four times for example. Bankruptcy is for government teat suckling losers, not capitalism winners.

Now I want you to take the graph for the top quintile and run a regression comparing it and government spending on entitlements (an attribute of socialism) over the same time period.

Let me know if the correlation is positive or negative.

Thanks for the graph that supports capitalism.

Well, how're we counting this? Like, full blown socialism? Or do socialism/capitalism hybrids count? A lot of games come out of Europe, which does have the whole socialized medicine and such going on.

I believe it is the third definition which is:

3)to possess characteristics I choose to assign to it so I can win an argument on the internet.

Huh. Wonder what that graph would say for the rest of the 60s, when Sudden Republican Tax-cutting Hero Kennedy was in office, during the space race. Or before that, when Retroactive Lefty Liberal Eisenhower was in office, and for some strange reason we had enough money to pay for an entire highway system. Or the years of Supervillain FDR, who must've paid for WW2 with some combination of tax cuts and severe cutbacks on government spending.

It's a goddamn mystery, I guess.

Breitbart logic is fucking magical.

To continue this line: I love how Sanders is somehow still relevant, but more than that, it's awesome just how much "socialism" triggers people, when Sanders' tax plan would've only jacked up taxes for the top quintile to pre-Reagan levels. OMG HE'S A LENINIST STOOGE

I'm not sure if I understand what you're getting at. The comic is 100% clearly speaking of the ownership of the means of production. This is Marxism 101, day 1. What did you think the comic was about?
