Hello all, I'm new here in Shanghai, and itching to play some good board games. Yes, I have some light ones, but I also have some great ones like Lords of Waterdeep, Trajan, Puerto Rico, Castles of Burgundy, and Mad Castles of King Ludwig.

Are there any groups out there that are joinable? Or will I be starting my own in my little apartment?

(Edited out pictures)

The link to my list of games is here. Most of the games are here in Shanghai, and I'm shipping the last few this month.

Hi, there's a group that meets every tuesday in JingAn Temple area. They mostly play party games, sometimes heavier stuff.

They have a group in Wechat, and also seem to organize some kind of Catan tournament.

I'm also new in the city and looking for fellow gamers. Feel free to add me on Wechat: sivereta.

Welcome to the city.

Ironically, I just moved back to the states after living in Pudong the last 2 years otherwise I would love to play with you. A few pointers:

1. Pistolera & Blue Frog are staple restaurants in the area that you should visit when you are missing US food
2. Cool Stuff Inc. delivers to China. Shipping is a beast but I ordered 6 shipments over my 2 years and never had an issue.
3. Unless you know the seller, dont buy board games from Taobao.
4. Do you have kids that are attending the local schools? At Concordia it was easy to post poker or board game nights in the newsletter or at the school. We celebrated tabletop day at our home and had a big turn out.
5. If #4 doesnt work for you, try posting on Shanghai Mamas.
6. MayDay games HQ is in Shanghai. The owner is American (I believe but am not 100%) and heard they host game nights, you may want to send them an email and ask.
7. I always liked Times better than City Shop for groceries. Both are expensive but Times has a better selection. Times is a short walk from Carrefour.
8. Speaking of Taobao, you can get/have made a full sized Texas Holdem table for a good price on Taobao. I got one that worked great as a game table with 6 matching chairs for ~$500.

Enjoy your time in Pudong! All the best.

I will be in Shanghai from December 18 until February 10.

I would be happy to meet up for games during that period.

GM me if you want to discuss this.

It was a great school. Kids miss it but are more happy to be back in the USA. I know Mrs. Kim's (3rd Grade Teacher) husband Eugene loves board games so he might be willing to help you start a group up. Enjoy your time there.

My board game group just vanished as my last fellow boardgamer had to move back to Europe end of December so I am also looking for board gamers in Pudong (Century Park & Biyum area) or Puxi :arrrh:

@Melissa you already found or established a group?

I play with some people from my school from time to time, but I am looking for more serious gamers. Century Park seems just a short subway stop away--I'm in Jinqiao. I was thinking of going to the Tuesday night group from the Meetup app, looks like they meet up at a place called Cactus right now (?). But would definitely like to get something going!

Hi I'm a local. There is an Asmodee branch store in HuangPu district which should be a good place to buy genuine games and meet people. I personally work here in PuDong ZhangJiang High Tech Park. But I live in Kunshan which is 30 minutes away by the train. I play most of games with my wife. I'd love to join any groups in this area.

That's a pretty long commute for work!

I live up north of your work in the Jinqiao area.

Is that a good one? Seems far a way. I think my friend and I will try that as well. If I knew more about a place to go I'd get a game group going here in Pudong.

Quite a crowd for a Tuesday night at cactus, so worth to cross the river .but it is quite a distance especially if traffic is bad

I used to play with my former game group - 2-3 folks at Baker and Spice at Kerrycenter Pudong, on a weekday night normally not that crowded there. Most of the times we combined it with the Monday burger deal at blue frog :-)
So that's a venue which may work for Pudong

anyway I plan to join the Tuesday game night at cactus more frequently, so if anyone needs a free lift from or to pudong century park area just connect with me

Yeah, my friend and I went to Cactus yesterday too and plan to go again next week, but the Pudong venue sounds great. My school where I work is not too far from Blue Frog.

It's on the "Game Time Shanghai" group. I'm finding out now if they're having a game night tonight, but I'm probably going to go anyway.

Well guess I'm late to this thread but future gamers that want to join in the meetup group is
https://www.meetup.com/GAME-TIME-SHANGHAI/

Right now there are two regular meetups on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the Jingan Temple and French concession area, and looking to starting a Thursday as well.

The only problem is finding a suitable venue of large enough tables to accommodate heavier games.
Most games played are on the light end but a core game enthusiasts try to get crunchier games on the table.
