Dear 8th Summit,

It was very kind of you to place this little gift in my KS copy of Mythos Tales:

Unfortunately, my delight at having discovered such a delicious, unexpected treasure was somewhat marred by the fact that it...

RUINED MY BEAUTIFUL BOX!!!!!!!!

(breathe deeply... everything's going to be fine... 5...4...3...2...)

Therefore, on behalf of all of your adoring fans, may I make a humble suggestion? Please reconsider the type of candy you decide to place in your next game. Maybe you want to go with something smaller, like a Tic Tac? Or even better, something softer, like a marshmallow Peep? Much appreciated!

Sincerely,

C Bazler
Rochester, NY

Got some boxes to ship in late summer? Throw some candy in there! What could go wrong?

I had a roll of Smarties and a mint with mine. No damage, though.

I would request that they not include any candy at all. Instead they should focus on better protecting the box during delivery: A single crumpled piece of kraft paper is not enough. I ordered my copy on the 8th Summit Web site, and the top of the box got crushed against the candy during transport. This resulted in a big hard-to-miss crease across the whole width. I am really unhappy about the whole thing.

I don't get the point of including something I did not order in the first place and will never eat. What is the point of doing so knowing it has a good chance of damaging the item?

Because it's a fun and joyful thing for the company to do.

You're basically saying that the company is getting a kick out of upsetting its customers? Point taken. That does not sound like a good business plan to me, but that's probably why I don't publish boardgames for a living.

Clearly, that's not what I was saying. If I had received a candy, I would have been happy. I didn't, and now I feel profound sadness. I have had other companies include candies in their packages, so this isn't unique.

It works both ways: If I had received an undamaged copy of the game, I would have been happy. I didn't, and now I feel profound sadness.

Maybe other companies do it (this is a first for me), but that doesn't make it right. If some people want candies, 8th Summit could simply add an extra yes/no field to their order form. I don't care much for them and I rarely eat any.
