I used to own the 3W version of this game and found it most enjoyable as a 3-6 player free-for-all--just deal out ships regardless of nationality and brawl! Is such play still possible with the new version?

The new version is designed for 2 to 6 players - each with a nations fleet.
Eg 4 players take it in turn to select all the ship cards of a nation -
Might select
1/ U.S.
2/ Russia/USSR
3/ India
4/ France

The object being to destroy x VP from any/all of the other players

But is it possible, as in the 3W version, to just draw ships regardless of nationality and slug it out? Your fleet might be Nimitz, Kirov, Arleigh Burke, three frigates and a foxtrot. Such fights were lots of fun and appealing to even the casual gamer.

To elaborate, in the 3W version the ships were all lumped together regardless of nationality into four decks:

>Carriers,
>Cruisers(Including BB, LPH, etc.),
>Submarines,
>Destroyers/Frigates.

Your starting fleet was one carrier, one cruiser, one sub and four little ships, and reinforcement ships were drawn based on the fog of war roll when the reinforcement card was played--
