1. Does a Chanter have to be in the party in order to use Invocation?

2. Can you initiate an Adventure (PvE or PvP) with an "empty" party and then only attack with Soulgem having Archers (via Longshot)?

1. Yes. Unless the ability says otherwise, the army card has to be in the party to use that ability.

2. No, you have to choose from your readied army cards to form a party to adventure or attack.

Yes, the chanter has to be in the party to use Invocation. I will edit my post to clarify, but please leave yours up as a warning to people trying to post to BGG before they are fully awake. ^_^
