I'm thinking along the lines of some spooky theme I can play with my kids.

Khet 2.0 seems like it would work well in the dark. But it's not a spooky theme and I haven't tried.

Khet (and the predecessor Deflexion) would be terrific in the dark, especially with some source of smoke or steam or CO2 fog to make the laser beam visible.

There was just one on Kickstarter a few months ago that I can't remember the name of that was funded and you have night vision goggles.

oh I totally forgot about that one!
I really wanted it, but I couldn't justify the cost.
The flickering LED simulating torch light looked amazing!

Mysterium is my immediate recommendation. Co-op, about 40 minutes, so good with kids. Also works well with spooky music on in the back. You need enough lighting to see all the suspect cards, but fun thematic element, one person paying add s ghost, handing out abstract art cards representing visions to the other players to solve the ghost's murder.
