Just wondering, why do you ignore the Mastermind's "always lead" when playing the solo mode?

That is because in solo mode you only use one henchmen group and one villain group, ignoring the always leads opens up for much more possibilities. However if you are playing against say Apocalypse you would apply his +2 damage buff and lose condition to which ever villain group, regardless if it isn't Four Horsemen.

Villain groups that don't have a mastermind to go with them would almost never get played.

Combining what the two previous posts said:
1. Ignore the "always leads" to open up possibilities.
2. If the mastermind has some effect that normally applies to his team, it applies to the replacement villain group instead.
