Any ideas on how to stop this from happening? I am running Ghostery but have whitelisted the site. I don't have any other plugins running so I assume it is something else. Any help is appreciated.

I'd imagine it's the add-on you mention or another such; I'm running Chrome with no issues.

BGG webpages use some other domains, not just obvious "boardgamegeek.com" etc.

You're not alone. I have also seen this behavior in Chrome and I suspect it's one of my extensions. But I haven't taken the time to figure out which one, so I just started using a different browser for BGG.

Not the answer you want to hear, but it's the one I've got.

Chrome wasn't doing it here but was for a few other pages after a recent Chrome update. Thankfully an update to that came out a few days later and all is well again. Could just be a coincidence however...

Hey, a followup from me:
I went back to Chrome and took the time to check out all my extensions.. and I found one that definitely seems to show a difference when disabled: It's called "Emoji Input by EmojiStuff.com", and is just supposed to show properly-formatted Emoji when Chrome doesn't fall back to the right character set.
I can live without this one, especially while browsing boardgamegeek, and no more freezing.
