CitOW has the advantage of being built upon an abundance of established lore; as such, there are plenty of videos on the web dedicated to the subject matter. I've linked some here in this thread so that people that aren't familiar with the lore can become better acquainted.

Not all the information here will translate to CitOW directly, but much of it will at least provide background information into what is at stake and what's going on.

CitOW is a game with a very unique theme and in my opinion is more enjoyable when you know more.

Warhammer Chaos Gods - Slaneesh, The Prince of Pleasure and Many Mammaries

Warhammer Chaos Gods - Tzeentch, The Changer of Ways

One of my favourite things about this universe is the fact that it is stated that generally speaking both Orcs and the Chaos Gods are way stronger and more plentiful than the good guys. They could overpower the whole lot of them at any point. There is one condition, they have to stop fighting each other (and in the case of Orcs, themselves). The only reason that the good guys win is because the bad guys are backstabbing and throwing wrenches in each others plans since they want to be the ones that rule the world.

This is actually well represented in the boardgame itself. Each player without interference can easily win the game. What makes the game difficult is that all players are constantly making it difficult for others to win, sometimes prioritizing it above winning themselves. The Lore lends itself very strongly and comes through in the theme of the game.
