Do ALL the normal modifiers apply to the friendly unit when a unit being in the same trench of that friendly unit fires at an enemy being in the same hex but out of the trench.

It seems weird, in that specific case, to apply to the friendly unit the +1 modifier for being in the same hex, because the firing unit is firing out of the trench, not into it.

Yes, apply ALL the usual modifiers.

It's not weird at all when you consider the actual layout of trenches. They zig-zagged, curved, had traverses and protrusions. So it's entirely possible for an enemy in no-mans' land, about 30-50 yards away, to be between two different protrusions of your friendly trench, both of which might be occupied by your side. So your troops could, in an effort to hit a valid target, accidentally fire into a section of their own trench. It's also possible for your scarred-to-death troops to mistake nearby friendlies as enemies who have infiltrated the trench.

Thanks
John
