could never pull the trigger on the Deluxe edition due to size. This will be a day 1 pick up.

Oh, I'm gonna buy one. It's far easier to carry around, and there are some cool scenarios for the Ogre map.

$50....

I already have the collector's set. I wanted to recommend this one to other casual gamers who wanted to try Ogre. What is coming in it, apart from all the units from Ogre pocket?

I'm quite surprised they are doing a Designers Edition compatible 6th ed
instead of waiting for the plastic mini version...

I already own the Designer's Edition & several of the extra armies.

AAAAAAAAND I'm embarassed to say that I'm likely to buy this as well.

Excuses I will give will include:

--more transportable
--great introductory wargame to take to a friend's house
--new colored Ogres

The ugly truth is, I just want all the things.

I too have the Designers Edition and most of the other armies. I have every intention of getting the reinforcements too.

But this version is more portable so..... maybe it looks like a good buy.

The set of minis are for use with the Ogre Sixth Edition game. The game ships to distributors in January.

Looks good . . . but I already have a portable set I carry around in the Launch Party bag. I'll look forward to the expansion.

I gave my copy of the Designer's Edition to a buddy who ran a game club at the school he teaches at when I moved to a smaller place last year.

I'm looking forward to replacing it with this edition.

Classic counters ftw
I got me one of these

http://www.sjgames.com/ogre/products/tournament/

which scratches my Ogre itch. Classic counters all the way ftw.

Glad this version is being made for those people who weren't all-in for the Designer's Edition, though!

Since it's compatible, did they say what doesn't come with this edition vs. what came with the designer version?

I'm getting two. One to beef up my portable ODE I cobbled together and one as a standalone portable. We are addicts. Embrace it.

It is just Ogre so it will only have the crater map, 3 Ogres (I think), a command post, and then units. It might have some other stuff, but I wouldn't expect it.

Effectively you are missing the other GEV maps, terrain stuff, and other Ogres and objectives.

I suspect it will include just the Ogre armor units, and not those introduced in G.E.V. and Shockwave.

This is the classic Ogre game at the Designer's Edition scale. Compatible with Ogre Designer's Edition.

Ogre Reinforcements, which goes to print soon, is compatible with both the Designer's Edition and Sixth Edition games.

Hi,

Is there anything in OGRE 6th that is not in the Designers Edition?

I think you have confused 6E with the expansion (Ogre: Reinforcements). 6E has the standard Combine (red) Ogres and the expansion has the Paneuro (blue) Ogres that the naming contest was for.

Not according to one of the posts above:

And not according to SJG:

Quote:
The Ogres come in a new, stylish blood-red and gunmetal-grey color scheme.

By different color, I thought you were saying a different faction. I think I would call it a modified color scheme rather than a different color since they are still red and gray, just a slightly different red and gray. Anyway as long as we are on the same page.

I would assume a MK III and a MK V to play the standard scenarios.

It's going to be the "normal" Mark III and Mark V. This is essentially an ODE-sized version of "just" Ogre. If you look at the rules PDF that was posted on the forum:

http://forums.sjgames.com/showthread.php?t=141479

You get a short description of the color:

Quote:
Red represents the forces of the North American Combine. The Ogres are red and gray, and the four Combine GEV counters are red and gray on a black background.

It's slightly different than the "normal NAC red."

There's a lot of interesting info in the thread, too.
