This guy reports that his FLGS had a copy of Star Trek Ascendancy in stock. So apparently some copies have been going out, and we should start seeing them trickling in to stores everywhere.

There were multiple copies at Guardian Games in Portland this afternoon (as well as Battle for Hogwarts and both of the new Codenames). My FLGS in Wilsonville did not have one though.

It would appear that there's less of a release date, and more of a release period, which it seems we're in. Now all that's left is to wait for the shipments to reach my FLGS. I know I'm not the only one waiting for that, too.

Some of the stores and websites have been on the convention overstock release. So it's possible that these are still convention copies.

Hooray! Here's to hoping Miniature Market in St. Louis gets their pre-order shipments soon. I was watching it for months, thinking, "I'll just pick it up when they get it. No need to preorder." Then GenCon hit...stupid me. Sold out. Then they got more for preorder! You bet your Orion Slave Girl's behind that I jumped on that. Good thing, too...that preorder sold out within a day or two, too.

It looks like all of the online retailers are estimating a September 30 release date, with arrival dates estimated for early October. Whether that's just guessing or if they're actually disallowed from shipping them out until then is not clear.

Ok, so all you lucky p'taQs who are gloating about picking up their copies (come ON, Miniature Market!...don't hate me, I still love you...) how is the gameplay? I've seen phenomenal reviews and I've seen mediocre reviews.

Picked up a copy (even though I have it on pre-order) on Friday from Games and Stuff in Glen Burnie Maryland!!!

Played it once solo thus far to learn rule set. Even solo this game is fun!

Starting a second solo (at least before Football starts) this morning. Will implement those rules I got wrong:

Warp (+ card bonus)
Starting Resources
Adjacency rules
Starbases
Fleet bonus rules and only one per Ascendancy counter (eek)
and other numskull stuff...

For those interested, I will be demoing this game next February 2017 at PrezCon in Virginia.

Looking forward to gaming with real life opponents...

My preorder from I'm Board! in Madison, WI came in Friday. When I picked it up yesterday I saw three copies on the shelves. All 50th Anniversary with the extra cards, including mine.

As I said earlier, it looks like there isn't so much a "release date," as it were, but rather a "release period." Stores get them when they get them, and can put them out for sale immediately.

It looks like online retailers like Amazon and Miniatures Market are restricted to September 30th.

When you see a release date listed as the last day of the month, it tends to be a placeholder date. The distributor tells the store "the publisher says it's coming out in September," so the store will list the last day of the month. If it goes out earlier, hooray, but they can't just pick a random day without more specific information.

Greetings,

There is no hidden information in the game which makes playing each side simpler than when playing a game solo with hidden information. I try to play each side as best as I can.

What I do for Trade Agreements:

I shuffle all Trade Agreement cards and flip them over one at a time until I reveal what factions are making contact. Then I place the revealed card as I would if I received from an opponent. Sometimes they are good, and other times the trade is not so good for one side. This makes an uneasy trade agreement between some fractions making my decision easier to break them.

What I do for Turn Order:

First no fraction pays any resources as you would in a real game by bidding resources for first choice.

What I do is role a D-6 for each faction, lowest # goes first.

On subsequent turns, the side that won FIRST PLAYER last round, his (or her) die is set aside. The 2nd/3rd player from last round roll off to see who is the first player. After the 1st faction is identified, then I roll for the remaining 2 factions to see who would be 2nd and 3rd team.

Also, while rolling the first two teams to determine for 1st Player and I roll double ONES. These two teams will be either 1st or 2nd player with a roll off to determine 1st player leaving the faction who went first last round going 3rd this round (no roll off).

Otherwise, game plays out as if there were three players playing the game.

This, for me, is a great way to learn the nuances of the game rules without screwing them up with other players new to the system, and thus ruining a GREAT GAME for them.

BTW: This is an AWESOME GAME!!
