If you were to make a King of some city in Europe game, where would you set it and what monsters would you include?

At first I thought Paris because you could have the monsters attacking the Eiffel Tower. I also thought maybe Berlin because of the German connection with board games. Rome might be interesting with all its ancient landmarks and being close to water. But I can't help but think London would make the most sense since its both close to water (I think that's key given the Godzilla origin of the game) and that it has so many iconic landmarks, maybe more than any city in the world.

But I'm at a complete loss for what monsters to include. I know North American monsters well and even Godzilla ones, but I don't know European monsters that well. I guess you could go with a giant bat (vampire), a giant wolf (werewolves), and a Frankenstein like monster, but what else?

I think the first major requirement is that the location must not be landlocked.

Some people in a town in France (not even a big town) created this:

Forget about Paris, Rome or other fancy cities, monsters are attacking the capital of mustard

Some European Monsters/Creatures:

- Loch Ness Monster
- Dragons
- Gnomes, Leprechauns, Dwarves, Nibelungen
- Jötnar (Giants)
- Gargoyles
- White Ladies/Dame Blanche (no, not the ice cream!)
- Baba Yaga/Black Annis
- Mermaids
- Cyclops

And probably a lot more...

Just look at the Greek/Roman/Celtic/Norse/German mythology.

I think that London would be the (for at least a few years more)'European' equivalent of Tokyo (Asia) and New York (USA).

I made a King of Winnipeg version. It's pretty fun to smash the town where you're living.

If they make a King of London, it has to be a Doctor Who themed one. Daleks, Cybermen, The Master, etc.

Another option would be King of Athens or Rome and have Roman or Greek gods fighting each other.

The green energy cubes are backed by the EU.
In light of this Monsters will not be going to London.

Probably better to make it a King of Europe actually. Especially if the gameboard has sections like the KoN one. That way you could add a couple of cities as places to fight in. As for the main one. Puh - that one is really hard. Maybe as most monsters would be rather mythological pick something wacky as well. Like Atlantis. Or Stonehenge.

The problem with most of the European monsters is that they're all really old. Godzilla and co come from 1954, and America has had a thriving monster theme running with the Blob, Creature ft Black Lagoon, Attack of the 50 ft Woman, King Kong and such up to Jaws.

Europe, lacking a cohesive culture and language, simply does not have the required foundation for such creatures. Tremors and the Cloverfield monster would have been a French and a Norwegian underground movie, and not get as widely known as a result.

Secondly, as OLD monsters, they are usually more creepy and/or cautionary than giant - although we do have the Giants, of course. Few of the ones we have are widespread enough, and even fewer make sense as destroying a city like Londen (asmost of the really big ones are from the greek period).

However, I love this idea . I was thinking more along the lines of adapting Monsters Menace Europe, though, as the map allows you to have more than one city.

If you'd need six, I'd go for a Dragon, a Giant, Mr Hyde, a Troll, a Golem of some sort (Stone, the Colossus? Flesh, giant Frankenstein's Monster? Clay, the Long Man of Wilmington? All three are decent options imho) and as number six... euhm... Oh! The Tarrasque of course

Nessie would be a fine addition as well, in fact, skip Mr Hyde .

Although you could retheme it from smashing up a big city to haunting a small vilage, and European folklore would give you all the tools you need .

The European's don't have a lot of Kaiju-style giant monsters in their folklore or history... at least NONE of the ones you listed would be city-crushing giant size. When's the last movie you saw or book you read where a 300ft/100meter tall vampire was crushing a city?

None of the European monsters (even the big ones) were of city-crushing size... ie: a Kaiju as they are called in modern times. If you're dead-set on using Europen history/culture/mythology, I suppose a few could be "super-sized" a bit... the Loch Ness monster, while not Kaiju-size, could be beefed up in size... also Norse Frost Giants, Greek Titans, Medieval Dragons... not sure what else... but I would avoid attacks from 100 meter tall vampires.

Just sayin'

Maybe scale down the fight a bit, have more human-sized creatures battling it out to rule the city rather the kaiju knocking down skyscrapers.
