The systems in STA are taken from various Star Trek episodes and movies.

Here is a list of the named systems in the base game:

Ardana – Two caste society, TOS episode 3x21 “The Cloud Miners”

Argo – Aquatic planet, TAS episode 1x13 “The Ambergris Element”

Capella – Fought over by Federation and Klingons , TOS episode 2x11 “Friday's Child”

Cestus III – Attacked by the Gorn, TOS episode 1x18 “Arena”

Dakala – A rogue planet discovered in 2151 by the NX-01, Enterprise episode 1x18 “Rogue Planet”

Delta IV – Homeworld of Lt. Ilia, Star Trek, The Motion Picture

Deneb V – Federation Academy of Sciences, Harry Mudd escaped from here, TOD episode 2x8 “I, Mudd”

Eagle Nebula – Messier 16 or NGC 6611

Excalbia – A volcanic planet where Kirk and Spock battle illusionary enemies in a test of good and evil, TOS episode 3x22 “The Savage Curtain”

Exo III – Location of Dr. Roger Korby's research station, TOS episode 1x07 “What Are Little Girls Made Of?"

Indri VIII – Uninhabited planet with a biosphere that was destroyed by the Klingon cruiser IKS Maht-H'a, TNG episode 6x20 “The Chase”

Izar – Home of Fleet Captain Garth, TOS episode 3x14 “Whom Gods Destroy”

Janus VI – Mining planet, scene of several murders, TOS episode 1x25 “Devil in the Dark”

McAllister Nebula – Located in Cardassian space, TNG episode 6x11 :Chain of Command Part II”

Murasaki 312 – Quasar studied by the Enterprise, TOS episode 1x16 “The Galileo Seven”

Risa – Pleasure planet, various TNG episodes

Rura Penthe – Klingon prison planet. Star Trek VI, The Undiscovered Country, Enterprise episode 2x19 “Judgement”

Sherman's Planet – Destination of quatratriticale shipment. TOS episode 2x15 “Trouble With Tribbles”

Sigma Tama IV – Homeworld of the Children of the Tama, TNG episode 5x02 “Darmok”

Son'a Prime – Son'a homeworld. The Son'a appear in Star Trek: Insurrection

Tau Cygna V – Colony where in 2274, the SS Artemis crashed on the surface and the survivors started a new civilization, TNG episode 3x02 “The Ensigns of Command”

Terra Nova – One of the first Earth-colonized planets, Enterprise episode 1x06 “Terra Nova”

Exemplary, well done. The Original Series is certainly well represented huh? I guess it makes sense to favour that, then move forward with expansions. I'd love to see system expansions that were just a fresh stack of planets, there's gotta be hundreds and hundreds of systems name checked throughout the series. To pick at random, I just watched 'Parallels' and 'Pegasus', you've got Bat'leth tournament planet and the asteroid field right there.
