Have Long Night and the original and I figure why not mix all the search decks together? Why does it matter that there are only 20 cards in a Search location pile? Isn't it just as hard to find cool stuff in 40 cards as it is in 20? Yes with 40 the guns could be miles down the deck, but with 20 the guns might not even be there...

One of the main objective cards in the base game has to do with emptying 3 different location's search piles.

Also, the bandits will be able to empty out search piles to deny survivors the chance to find cool stuff.

it also creates an interesting variation. after playing a stack of games, you have an idea of what's in each deck. now, combine the decks and set it to 20.
on Player X's turn, he goes to the Police Station and starts mining the location, hunting for a Sniper Rifle, but after several rounds, he empties the deck, but doesn't find one. totally bummed, he checks the box and finds both Sniper Rifles in the discard pile. he just wasted time hunting for something that wasn't there. it's either or LOL, depending on your point of view...

When playing longer games, the decks start to get thin, the grocery store runs out of food.

This.
Running out of things at one location forces you to brave the zombie-filled streets to reach another location.
