During a game session ( a gaming night with your friends ), is it possible to exit the dungeon before you defeat the final boss, in order to heal wounds and buy equipments, and the reenter the dungeon?

Edit:
And also refresh spells?

Using the rules as written, you cannot re-enter the same dungeon. I don't see why you couldn't house rule this though... especially for campaign play. The "Deeper Dungeons" expansion that is mentioned in the rules is supposed to add rules about going back to town and returning to the dungeon while also handling dungeons with more than one level (based on what I've seen Andrea mention on the yahoo group).

One of the things I love most about board gaming in general (and solo gaming in particular) is the ability to tailor and sculpt the gameplay to be exactly how you want it.

So that the game remains challenging, I would recommend at the very least to roll again on the room content table for every room your already went through.

The closest thing to a rule I've found related to this is in the FAQ section on page 63:

Adventures can be played one after the other like the chapters in a book. This kind of continued play is called a campaign. In a campaign, your heroes retain the levels, equipment, and treasure accumulated in the previous games, thus becoming able to face bigger challenges. Wounds are fully healed between games.


Not really sure what a "game" is, but I house rule allowance for leaving the dungeon to return to town. I think this fits thematically and if you are several rooms away from an exit and injured or without weapons, it will be difficult to get out of there anyway.

In fact, I ran into this situation tonight. Three rooms in, I encountered those devilish invisible gremlins who stole all my weapons. Since I was only two rooms from the exit, I was able to get there without running into any wandering baddies and was able to scurry back to town to heal and restock. Fortunately, I had just enough gold to replace the stolen weapons.

However, when a dungeon is completed, I don't carry over the characters. I just start new characters at level 1. Just my $0.02...
